MANDATE In 1989, a group of dedicated Canadians formed the Council of Human Rights and Race Relations, which later was incorporated as the Human Rights and Race Relations Centre. The philosophy of the Centre is to promote respect for race relations and uphold human rights. Having noted the fact that the English and French founding fathers toiled hard to develop a democracy, which can serve as a Lighthouse to the whole world, the founding members of the Centre crafted an approach in the same spirit. Following are the objectives of the Centre: - Promoting multiculturalism
- Promoting employment equity and setting up of national Registry of Visible Minorities
- Recognizing and acknowledging Excellence in Race Relations
- Improving quality of life, and health of seniors
- Aggressively support efforts in curbing women assault, curbing child abuse, and strengthening family unit
- Work aggressively in the area integration of new Canadians
- Promote cultural events of the Visible Minorities by organizing cultural events
- Setting up a Scholarship Trust Fund in the name of Hasanat Foundation
- Produce a multicultural magazine
To achieve these missions, the Centre has set up a number of subsidiaries, namely, a publication division which is engaged in publishing a weekly and also books on interesting subjects, The New Canadians Settlement Services, and The Ethnic Council of Arts, and weekly New Canada.
